Casey B. Ward, Chairman, CTO, Founder

Responsible for FutureWorks' business strategy, sales, marketing, new business development (US),  product development, and technical operations, Mr. Ward has a rare talent and experience base spanning software product development, technical team building and leadership, sales & marketing, hi-tech startup and new business development.

After receiving his B.S. degree in Computer Science and Mathematics with Great Distinction (magna cum laude) from Clarkson University, Mr. Ward began his career as an entry-level operating system software developer for IBM in San Jose, CA.  Accelerating rapidly, he was promoted to Product Development Manager in four years, and achieved the rank of Senior Programmer in less than 8 years (it typically takes 15-20 years for the relatively few who reach the senior programmer level at IBM).

Mr. Ward has been involved in multiple site project management (interstate and international contracts/development teams — hiring, recognizing, motivating, coaching, promoting); managed operating budgets of over $3M and achieved 100% product delivery success in PC, mid-range and mainframe environments.

Born in New York state, Mr. Ward is an energetic entrepreneur who has been intimately involved with two hi-tech startups after leaving IBM in 1994:

  • Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FutureWorks, Inc., a custom software development firm teaming US and Russian engineers for software projects in the US;

  • Chief Technology Officer for an award-winning digitized mapping-related software development firm in the Seattle area.

In 1996, he turned his attention to the sales and marketing arena and was named Salesperson of the Year in 1997 for STLabs, Inc. -- which was then a world-leading software testing company headquartered in Bellevue Washington. In that position Mr. Ward was the Account Executive for the company's largest, strategic account, Microsoft Corporation.

After this and prior to joining FutureWorks, Mr. Ward was VP of Sales and Marketing for TTCX - The Test Company, Inc., a Bellevue-based personal computer hardware and Internet startup test company bringing it from $450K to >$1 million sales in his first year (over two times growth). Additionally, Mr. Ward was responsible for a majority of TTCX's $450K first year sales by setting the company up with its most significant core business account that year and currently, Microsoft Corporation.  He made major contributions to the company's internal technical operations quality and professionalism, established and secured all its largest and strategic corporate accounts, proactively took key steps to turn around several major projects and accounts that were seriously damaged due to significant service problems.  In such cases he led the technical operations organization to successful delivery and restoration of the customer relationships; and taught the organization what was required to satisfy its customers.  As a result of his contributions, TTCX raised its overall performance level and professionalism significantly.

Mr. Ward set the foundation for an estimated $5 million in sales the second full year after he joined the company (over 10 times growth from two years prior).  This revenue is based primarily on TTCX's most important and strategic Microsoft account he obtained and developed for the company, and led the turned around when TTCX did not meet Microsoft's high level quality expectations.  The Microsoft account involves the company's core competency, Windows Hardware Quality (WHQL) testing, in which Mr. Ward secured a relatively enormous contract with Microsoft for TTCX to handle all of Microsoft's WHQL (Windows logo) testing for the US.  He was gratefully recognized by the TTCX president for taking TTCX from a "mom and pop shop" to a "real, professional, substantial corporation".

Mr. Ward brings multiple dimensions to the FutureWorks organization in one integrated package: visionary, innovator and strategic thinker; senior level software architect; award winning software product developer and leader; unique talents in personnel motivation and development and new business development; consistent track record of delivering major software development projects on schedule and under budget; and a rich experience base from startups to Enterprises (such as IBM and Microsoft).  This very rare combination is ideal for the Virtual Chief Technology Officer for enterprise Windows and Web application development focus and mission of FutureWorks.
